Got sunglasses? The Vision Council releases annual UV report [ZEISS]
Just in time for summer, The Vision Council recently released their 2015 UV protection report, Protection for the Naked Eye: Sunglasses as a Healthy Necessity. It reveals the current sun protection habits of Americans and the risks of skipping this important step in protecting our vision.
As an optician, you probably know that you should wear sunglasses whenever you’re outdoors. But do your patients?
The report tells us that:
- More than 1/3 of parents said their kids never wear sunglasses.
- Millennials are least likely to wear sunglasses always or often.
- 2 in 3 Americans leave their eyes unguarded on cloudy or rainy days.
UV exposure has been linked to serious eye diseases, such as cataracts and macular degeneration. And UV damage to the eye is cumulative and can never be reversed.
Read the report, and be aware of the hazards so you can encourage your patients to wear sunglasses regularly and protect their vision!
And if you’re looking for what sun protection to recommend in prescription eyeglasses, ZEISS has a full line of sun lenses and PhotoFusion® self-tinting lenses, as well as DuraVision® BlueProtect coating to protect against the harmful parts of the blue-violet light spectrum.
