All ya'll have to do is care

Recently we have made a decision we need to hire more opticians. It is hard to find good help these days, and I don't think we're alone in this problem. We have a plethora of applicants but few actually want to do the work. As of late we have found 2 hopefuls and had them come in to do a job shadow so they can see the work and make a better decision if they think it is a good fit for them. As we are doing this I always get the question of what the job is all about. What I have come up with is this---you just have to care. You have to care to learn, care for the patients you serve, care to double-check to be sure things are correct. How is it we have a society that this simple trait is so rare to find? I am hopeful there are more who care out there.
