My Optical Attic

My Optical Attic

Recently, another optical shop referred a gentleman to my store who was in search of a very particular vintage frame; a 1940’s art-bilt ful-vue with filigree detailing. As an older optician and a collector of antique eyewear, I recognized exactly what he was talking about and I even had a comparable piece in my backroom. I cleaned it up, replaced the nose pads, and fitted new prescription lenses into the 70 year old frame. It was after I sold this man those eyeglasses that I decided to do a bit of research and discovered that I completely undersold that job. Oops! There’s definitely a demand for antique eyewear these days and wouldn’t it be great if a consumer had the option to buy true vintage frames from a qualified optician as opposed to buying them on the internet or from a second hand store? I have since decided to pull more frames from my backroom collection with the plan of refurbishing them and displaying them for purchase. Does anyone else sell vintage eyewear? If so, I’d love to know how you display them…
