Small Business Saturday Fail

For the past few weeks, we’ve been preparing for Small Business Saturday. The plan was to open the doors to our festive office on November 29th and show our customers how much we appreciate them. We spent all day on Friday cleaning and decorating the store. We stuffed goodie bags with lens cleaner, chocolate bars and coffee cards. We bought cookie platters and made coffee. We even organized a drawing for a $100 gift certificate. We advertised this event for weeks on social media and in-office. We were hoping for a decent crowd of customers swing by.

Small Business Saturday was finally upon us and lo and behold, Mother Nature brought us snow, freezing temperatures and strong winds. Our power went out an hour into opening! We were dead! Only a small handful of people walked through our doors, making the chances to win the gift certificate VERY favorable. On the bright side – we’ve been snacking on all those leftover cookies today.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. It’s always an adventure owning a small business.
