Each year I am fortunate enough to attend several education conferences, thanks to the great doctor's at Uptown Eye Care that are willing to invest in the staff. My favorite meeting has always been the Minnesota Optometric Association's Annual Meeting in February. Again this year I was lucky enough to attend and bring many pearls of wisdom back to the office.

This annual meeting is a great way to earn credits for certification renewal, great education if you are thinking about becoming certified and it is also an opportunity to network with other offices. When our doctor's invest in us and are willing to send us to conferences and educational seminars welcome this opportunity to grow professionally and personally.

Look at the picture, do you recognize my favorite speaker at the conference? That's Tim Slapnicher! Tim was one of the many great speaker's we had at this year's meeting. Tim did an amazing job presenting on several different topics. "50 Shades of Reps" was my favorite topic that Tim presented. It was truthful, funny and it looked at both sides of the fence.

I encourage all opticians to be a member of their state association and to be part of the AOA. The AOA is free to all Para's (all staff in your office are Para's) as long as your doctor is a member of the AOA. Registration is very easy and you can register your entire office at one time with your doctor's AOA number. Being part of the AOA you will have access to free credits for certification renewal, access to programs and services, education and staff training, and information communicated through AOA publications.
