INTERVIEW: Pille Kapetanakis

How was your company founded?

Concept Eyewear Inc. was founded in 2011. I had been a licensed optician and contact lens fitter for 11 years and always dreamt of owning an eyewear distribution company. I also wanted to start designing frames and develop my own collection, so I slowly started looking around for opportunities.
When my husband and I found our manufacturer in France, we knew that this was THE time to jump in and make dreams a reality.
Here we are, 4 years later, distributing very unique, quality French brands such as V.Design, V.Design Kids, Bovelo and RetroVelo. Our house collection, K.A.P. Design is also slowly coming along.

What separates you from the competition?

Our lineup of eyewear is truly unique. Our French design team is creative beyond imagination, allowing us to bring the most unique beautiful frames to opticians near and far. Take a look at the collections for yourself:
We are proudly a family-owned business. You'll get a real person (usually me) on the phone when you call. If you are in Western Canada, I'm also the one who will come and see you at your store. We believe in personal service and making our clients feel like they belong.

How should we explain your product to our clients?

The V.Design assertive upscale ophthalmic frames are unique, colorful and extravagant, corresponding to the wearer's individuality and personality. The styles combine unexpected unique shapes and architectural temple details with bright fun colors. V.Design Kids eyewear line mimics the V.Design adult frames and is suitable for kids, teens and small adults. Both collections are handmade. The frames are handpainted twice and baked twice for superior durable finishes.
Bovelo is a great alternative for optical stores looking for something different from the mainstream eyewear. Beautiful wearable shapes and colors make this mid-priced line popular.
RetroVelo brings retro-inspired shapes to life with bright, vibrant colors. This collection of stainless steel frames is playful, fun and sure to catch an eye.

What keeps you motivated?

Our clients, their excitement when they call and tell me how well our frames are selling. Celebrating their success.
The ever-evolving nature of the optical industry, the fashion aspect of it - I get very excited when I see new releases, new innovative designs.

What's one thing you'd like to share with opticians?

Go for your dreams, no matter what they are.
All change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end (Robin Sharma)
