Discover the most passionate opticians in the world.

INTERVIEW: Louis Fullagar

INTERVIEW: Louis Fullagar

Why did you get started in this industry?

I began in the optical industry as an apprentice optician in 1984 back in Melbourne, Australia. I was very young and figured that I would get my trade qualifications and then do something really exciting but here I am still in the industry and loving it.

How was your company founded?

The idea for the Luxury Eyewear Forum came to me at the end of a day traveling between states. I had started the day talking to a store owner/optician about a certain topic and ended up in another city at the end of the day having an identical conversation with someone else. I thought to myself "These guys should talk to each other..." That night I formed the Facebook group that is now 3000 strong and the website followed shortly after.

What inspires you at work?

I am inspired by many different things in my work. In reference to what we do at Luxury Eyewear Forum, it would be the independent spirit of these small batch design houses, optical boutiques and the individuals whose unique vision propels our part of the industry.

How should we explain your product to our clients?

LEF is the beating heart of the independent luxury eyewear movement. We are the central hub to find designers, stores, blogs, news, careers and the most original and beautiful eyewear on the planet.

Our mission is to create a distinction between mass produced licensed eyewear and the real deal – purely designer driven and unique handmade eyewear creations!

Use our amazing website to learn about the creative world of the true independent eyewear movement…the designers, manufacturers, stores and boutiques.

What keeps you motivated?

If you really love glasses then dig a little deeper. There is a lot of big box, mass produced, what I call "corporate" eyewear on the market but there is a very exciting alternative that's driven by passionate independent designers and manufacturers. This is where the real artistry and skill still survives....
