Falling In L.O.V.E. as an Optician

I remember many moons ago working for Jarman Shoes as an Assistant Manager walking through the mall on my lunch break looking at the many stores at the mall. One particular day I walked by the well-known eyeglass place on a Saturday and that place was rocking! I looked through the windows and noticed people in lab jackets working as a team doing something creative that I had no clue what they were doing. There was a sign on the window that read: Hiring Lab Techs and Eyewear Consultants. I was like, “Wow!” That was the beginning of my career as an Optician over 20 something years ago. So I ask this question, what is love? What does it mean to "love" your job?

In the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definition of love is:

A (1): strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties <maternal love for a child (2): attraction based on sexual desire: affection and tenderness felt by lovers (3): affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests <love for his old schoolmates>

B: an assurance of affection <give her my love>
: warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion <love of the sea>

Okay sounds about right. Now let's equate this definition to our profession: Opticianary. You have to have the right attitude, the right mindset to make this job that we do daily a career. Let me break down the term LOVE.

Loyalty

You have to have loyalty to your Doctor, your office or teammates and most of all to your patients, clients, members, customers. Loyalty is making sure that you deliver a wow experience to your patient. Making sure that everyone you have the honor to serve to feel like they are The Most Important Person -- EVER! Listen to their concerns, their needs, wants in their vision care and deliver!

Open Hearted

Being open hearted has a great deal with listening to your patient, being frank with them, and let them express their optical needs. It is about having the emotional intelligence to understand better and overstand what you need to do to deliver great optical results.

Versatility

The noun versatility derives from the Latin word versatilis, meaning "turning, revolving, moving, capable of turning to varied subjects or tasks." That means as an Optician you can fill many roles in your office. You are crossed-trained in different areas of the office in delivering awesome patient/customer service.

Enthusiasm

To love your job you have to give off positive, exciting vibes not only to your patients but to everyone you work with or encounter. When you truly love being an Optician your passion for what you do will be contagious to everyone you meet. You will be just as happy and excited as your client buying his or her new glasses. You are literally altering people's lives, enhancing lives, and making people happy! That's why I love being an Optician; I create happiness daily!

So now family, I hope we have an understanding of what L.O.V.E. is pertaining to being an Optician. I love what I do and I am sure we All feel the same way. Happy selling.....
