Up to the big smoke! [Jim Green-England]
It's 5 am and it's time for the big day, I'm ready, well as ready as I'll ever be, so I stroll down to the station the only things I'm missing is my bowler hat and suitcase, for now my eastpack backpack will have to do.
As I get on board the 6:14 to London Bridge I am distinctly aware that everyone on the coach knows each other and there I am title country boy heading up to the smoke, in goes the headphones and on goes the mini disc player.
At 7:55 I arrive in London Bridge and a quick tube ride takes me to the fine learning establishment that is City and Islington College. As we all muster in the common room the banter begins, who works where and and for how long. I'm privileged to be in a class with some real characters and this puts me at ease, this is until our first lecture begins the first 10 minutes ate taken up trying to spell OPTHALMIC, apparently it was OPHTHALMIC with a PH not just a P: who ever would have known, it was going to be a long day! The lecture hall had a certain smell about it that even now I can't get out of my mind.
I return to work and I recite my day's activities, it brings some warm memories back to those who studied there before me and the team share in my enthusiasm for next week.
Who knows I may even have a bowler hat by then??
