Summertime and the Living is Easy [Susan Halstead]

Our city is pretty famous for health, history and horses! There are currently 18 public mineral springs in various locations throughout Saratoga. No two springs taste exactly alike - each one produces its own unique mineral content, imparting its own distinct flavor. The purported health benefits vary from spring to spring... some are said to help with skin ailments, assist in digestion, or even strengthen the blood!

The Battle of Saratoga, comprising two significant battles during September and October of 1777, was a crucial victory for the Patriots during the American Revolution and is considered the turning point of the Revolutionary War. The Battle was the impetus for France to enter the war against Britain, re-invigorating Washington’s Continental Army and providing much needed supplies and support.

Saratoga Race Course was the first organized Thoroughbred horse racing track to open in the United States on August 3, 1863. This makes Saratoga Race Course the oldest horse racing track and by many estimates, the oldest sporting venue in the nation.

Saratoga Performing Arts Center is a beautiful outdoor amphitheater that is the summer residence of both the NYC Ballet and the Philadelphia Orchestra and a concert venue for Live Nation featuring all the top touring acts in music and entertainment.

All of these seasonal venues bring big changes to our city and it's demographics.

Area hotels, resorts and house rentals fill with visiting tourists, many of whom stay for the entire six week racing meet.

We have made spent years networking with local businesses about our willingness to assist with tourists vision needs. Some folks forget their contacts, others lose or break their glasses or sunglasses. Some just need adjustments and others may have to be treated for red eye.

This has served a dual benefit. We assist the tourists and we get to know the hotel and business employees. They send someone to us and they hear back great things and then they come to us with their families.

We do not charge for adjustments or repairs (unless parts need to be ordered), we accommodate emergencies immediately and we carry a large selection of ready made non-rx sunglasses including models for kids and teens. We are happy to give contact lens patients trials at no charge if we can confirm the Rx with their OD at homes.

Visitors are always impressed with our care and generosity and offer to pay us for our time and services. To which I reply, "I only hope my patients receive the same treatment when they are travelling!"

Living in a tourist oriented community means we have an opportunity to interact with and help a lot of interesting people from around the country and the world!
