Hello and welcome to my blog,
I am excited to be involved with The DailyOptician.com, and to have the opportunity to share experiences with my fellow opticians.
By way of introduction, my undergraduate studies were in photography, after which I worked as a professional photographer for twelve years. I then elected to change careers and returned to school for Opticianry. After becoming licensed in the State of Washington, I continued my education and training and obtained my Masters in Ophthalmic Optics. I am a contributing author and faculty member for Jobson Publications, ("20/20 Magazine" and "Lens & Technology"), and have been fortunate enough to have multiple technical papers and articles published throughout the USA and Europe on the topic of Opticianry. I have also written technical reports for Vision Care Product News, CE programs for both The National Academy of Opticianry and my State Opticianry Association, and have had the pleasure of mentoring several apprentice Opticians working towards their Washington State license. Ironically, prior to attending art school for photography, I actually apprenticed as an optician for 9 months in the UK, my country of birth, not knowing I would ultimately return to the profession.
I have now been a practicing optician for 16 years, and I am the Manager at Watters Vision Care, a private practice in Battle Ground, WA. Our practice has three doctors, a total of 12 employees, including 2 Opticians, in addition to myself.
What I enjoy most about Opticianry is the everyday interaction with my patients. As a practice, we pride ourselves on providing an outstanding patient experience - the absolute best in patient care and service, combined with premium quality products.
I look forward to sharing stories and experiences with you all, and hope I can provide a few helpful tips along the way.
