Introducing: Aframes Eyewear

Its great to e-meet you. Our names are Wes and Cole, and we are the cofounders of Aframes Eyewear. We wanted to use our first official blog post to introduce ourselves, our company, and some of the topics we might discuss in our upcoming posts.

Both of us (Wes and Cole) competed on the cross country and track teams at Eastern Michigan University, where we became best friends, roommates, and future business partners. It was during our senior year when Wes was inspired to create Aframes.

Wes created Aframes when he learned that each year 500,000 children go blind from vitamin A deficiency, and 50% of those children die within 12 months of going blind. Even more shocking, it costs just ONE DOLLAR for a years worth of supplements for one child. After learning this, Wes decided to create a brand that would raise awareness and funding for vitamin A supplementation in developing nations. Since our founding, we have donated enough to save the sight and lives of almost 7,000 children in developing nations.

After launching Aframes, we quickly realized we would be able to donate more money to our cause if were first and foremost, a great brand. That means we not only have to create a great aesthetic and story, but we must put the design and quality of our product first. We decided to create a product we would always be proud of, and in the process, create more value for our customers.

We wanted to use this blog to discuss not only what its like to be an independent brand in the current market, but what its like to start a brand from scratch, with no previous experience in the optical industry. Cole, our director of Sales, will tell stories from the road, and share his experiences meeting many great opticians from around the country. We will share our experiences managing manufacturing in Italy, China, and other countries, as well as our views of manufacturing in each country. We’ll share funny stories, as we as startup horror stories, but in the end, we will always try to make our posts informative and entertaining.
